Churchfield CE Primary School RAAC Removal Project

Reading Time: < 1 minute

At Warneford Consulting, we help schools and trusts navigate complex estate challenges with clarity, expertise, and a focus on safety and long-term value. One standout example is the RAAC removal project at Churchfield Church of England Primary School in Enfield, part of the Diocese of St Albans MAT (DSAMAT).

When Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (RAAC) was identified in the school’s roof structure, swift action was required to ensure the safety of pupils and staff while maintaining continuity of education. Warneford Consulting worked closely with the Department for Education (DfE) and specialist delivery teams to coordinate a structured, effective response.

Early engagement between the DfE, the diocese, and the school was key. Comprehensive structural, condition, mechanical, design, and cost surveys were carried out, giving the DfE confidence and cost certainty ahead of project approval. Over the following 12 months, Warneford Consulting, DSAMAT, and the DfE collaborated to define the project’s scope, specification, and procurement route.

Eddisons were appointed to provide architectural design, contract administration, and project management, while Warneford Consulting acted on behalf of the Trust to ensure clear communication and alignment across all parties. Following a joint tender process, Everlast was selected as the principal contractor.

The works were carried out during the Easter half-term and completed ahead of the new academic year in September, on time, under budget, and to a high standard. The outcome is a safer, modern, and resilient school environment, achieved through careful planning, collaboration, and a shared commitment to quality and safety.
