Newton Road School, Boiler, Pipework Distribution and Emitters Project
Newton Road Primary School, part of the Nene Education 8 school MAT, is a late Victorian school with a tiled pitched roof, solid walls, and an aged, life-expired infrastructure.
The school’s antiquated heating and hot water system, including its pipework and cast-iron radiators, made it vulnerable to a disruption of service.
Having such an outdated heating system made it nearly impossible for the school to effectively manage the output of heat.
The lack of a working building management system rendered the school liable to very high energy costs and cold classrooms in the winter, and hot classrooms in the summer.
Work Undertaken
With Warneford Consulting at the helm, the trust, school, consultants, and contractors worked collaboratively to agree access to commence the works before the end of term.
The plant room components were renewed during the summer holiday and heating and hot water were restored before the new term. Pipework and emitters were installed during subsequent half terms and during out-of-hours periods.
Results
The school, its staff, and pupils were able to continue with all day-to-day operations whilst the works were undertaken.
The new energy efficient system has resulted in one that the school can control and as a result make sizable energy cost savings and reduce their carbon emissions.
