Warneford Consulting at Education Estates 2021

Warneford Consulting were delighted to exhibit, chair and present at the Education Estate 2021 Conference in Manchester last week.

Naturally, many of the presentations focussed on issues of sustainability and, in particular, the road to Net Zero and its impact on the school estate.

Tim presented on the Good Estate Management for Schools stage, on how to optimise the estate in order to make savings and generate additional income.
The aim was to encourage schools to ensure they are at the very heart of their local community and to understand stakeholder’s needs and ways in which a school’s facilities can cater for them and provide much needed income streams.

Tim also sought to use live examples of where a trust had successfully attracted inward investment to fund a new sixth form block via a back-to-back contract with a leisure company using a DfE compliant operating lease.

This theme of looking beyond government funding and out to the market, for alternative routes was also exemplified in a presentation given by BCR’s Steve Bolt and Eden Sustainable’s Scott Burrow, when they jointly presented on the use of operating leases and Power Purchase Agreements (PPA).

Eden, in partnership with the Oasis Learning Trust, have commenced installing solar pv across the MAT’s 52 schools, using a PPA to fund the renewable installations. Achieving DfE sign off was not without some obstacles but the MAT was determined to secure vital electricity cost savings and to commence a journey of reducing their carbon footprint.

The ESFA presented across a number of fronts and provided up to date information on the Condition Data Collection Programme, forthcoming round of the Condition Improvement Fund and some insight of the timetabling for the forthcoming School Rebuilding Programme.

The ESFA team in attendance were happy to talk to speakers and delegates at their stand, providing further detail on questions posed during their presentations.

‘’I hold enormous regard for James and the Eds Estate team, and it was a real pleasure to be back on the live circuit after last year’s remote version. This event goes from strength to strength, and we will certainly exhibit again next year”
